April 2009

In April we went to Watford City for Easter. Carter got to spend time with his cousin, Cruz, who is 5 months older. Carter didn't seem to care. Notice Cruz's cute Easter outfit and Carter's fall colored outfit. Cruz was born in September and Cruz' fall clothes became Carter's spring clothes. He didn't care. We had Carter baptized at the end of April in the Fort Peck Luthern Church, the only church in Fort Peck.

March 2009

We took our first road trip, besides the 20 miles into town, in March. Landon had to work in Billings for a week so we went with him. My Aunt Kathie and her daughter-in-laws, aka my cousins wives, threw a shower for us at my Grandma Ash's, kids included. One of the little guys, Cash (I think he's about 3), came in while I was nursing Carter to see what I was doing. I told him I was feeding Carter and he said, "oh, giving him a bottle". Not knowing how to explain nursing, and not being at all covered up, I said, to the farm kid, "no, like a mama cow feeds her calf." He was fine with that and left. He came back in a couple minutes later with Levi, Lauren, Karson, Kadence, and Brandon to show them and said "see, she feeds him like a mama cow feeds her calf". It was so cute, and comical.

More Super Tiny Carter

He must really be concentrating on getting that pacifier back into his mouth.

I was trying to get a smile from him. Pretty good for being 3 weeks old.

Really Old Pictures

I thought I'd get some comments on posting another fishing picture instead of a Carter picture, but it appears that people have quit checking the blog. My July 31st resolution was/is to post at least once a week, including what I've missed in the past 6 months. So here you go. I think these were taken in early March (2-3 weeks old).

OOOHHHHH, please don't wake me.

Landon's Big Fish

They had to catch their bait first (shad). Pretty ugly bait but the sturgeon like it.

This is the biggest fish of Landon's life. At the end of May we went to Portland/Vancouver and Seattle for my cousin's wedding. Landon went on a charter boat fishing for white sturgeon (similar to but not the same as the pallid sturgeon that he works with) on the Columbia River. He caught two big ones and a little one. The big ones were 8 1/2 feet and 9 1/2 feet and somewhere around 400 pounds. They couldn't bring them into the boat because they're too big, but I think you get the picture. He didn't get to keep them either. They only keep the medium size (4') fish. As you can imagine, he was pretty excited about it. I'm sure he'll do another fishing trip next time we're out there.

Someone Please Stop Time!

I can't believe how much our little man has changed in two weeks and how fast that two weeks has gone. He is 6 days old in this picture, one of the few I have with his eyes open. I haven't taken as many pictures as I thought I would, maybe because I'd have to put him down for 2 minutes and go get a camera. I could stay home forever and hold him and kiss him and love on him, probably not too cool when he is 11, but for now that is what our days consist of (besides naps with dad on the couch after Rachel Ray and The Dr.s, you know, male bonding).

The Moment You've All Been Waiting For

This is Carter David. He was born on Sunday, February 15th at 8:38 am, weighed 7 lbs 10 oz and was 21" long. Labor started Friday night and got really intense on Saturday afternoon. We headed to town Saturday after dinner and by the time we got there my contractions were 4 minutes apart. I thought for sure he'd be a Valentine's Day baby, but he decided to stay put for a few more hours. He would have been born hours earlier but the epidural slowed my contractions down from every 2 minutes to every 15 minutes. Either he is stubborn as can be or I wasn't any good at pushing because after about 30 minutes his heart rate dropped and the doctor wanted him out sooner than later (I heard c-section), so he used the vacuum a bit then I went back to pushing. After 2 hours of pushing and only getting his head out to his ears, the doctor asked if I just wanted him to vacuum him again and pull him out. YES PLEASE! So our precious little boy was not so cute when he came out. He had one heck of a cone head with a huge bruise, but that's why they make baby hats. His head is fine now, just a little red spot and a scratch. We got to come home on Monday at noon, and he slept the whole way home, not one peep. He's been a pretty easy baby so far. We had a little bout of jaundice, but it's clearing up, so no more pumpkin head. These first few days have been busy, but I've been taking lots of pictures and will try to post them soon.

Baby Update, February 9, 2009

Nothing to tell you. I went to the Dr this morning and I was hoping he'd have to admit me because I was on the verge of delivering, but to my disappointment, I'm not even 1/2 a centimeter dilated. I go in again on Monday, February 16th, hopefully dilated. Til then, keep waitin'.

You might have noticed that this is the same as the last post. That is because ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAS CHANGED! Don't be scared, I wasn't yelling at you, just raising my voice out of frustration. I know I'm not due for another 5 days, but come on, 1/2 a centimeter, something, anything. I'm not even having Braxton Hix contractions, all the pain from last weekend is gone, and he's still moving like crazy not taking a couple days off to save up energy for his debut.

Baby Update, January 28, 2009

Sorry, but there isn't much to tell and no pictures to post. The last appointment entailed measuring my belly and listening to his heart rate, which was 134 beats per minute. I go back February 4th for another appointment, so maybe I'll have more news to post then. I'll do my best to get a picture of the little bean up as soon as possible, til then, keep waitin'.
